Interview with Cllr Joe McKernan
Wednesday 13 April 2011
Mr McKernan a long serving Member of the Housing Council will be retiring this year and we felt it was time to get his views on the Housing Council.
How long have you been a member of the Housing Council and what other involvements do you have?
I have been a Member of the Housing Council since 1995.
What would you say have been the biggest challenges to the Housing Council?
I consider that the increasing recession throughout the land has been the ongoing challenge for the Housing Council
I’m sure you have seen many changes over the years. What strikes you as the biggest change and do you think it is for the better?
I consider the biggest change for the better has been the improved conditions of housing.
If you could make one major change to the Housing Council before you leave what would it be?
I would suggest that members of other government organisations pay more attention to the Housing Council.
What is your fondest memory over the years at Housing Council?
The fondest memory I have of the Housing Council over the years was meeting other Councillors from over a wider area.
Any funny stories of your time there?
Yes, quite a lot, but I could not repeat them in writing!!
Which well known individual do you admire and why?
The individual I admire would have to be Carol Reynolds MBA, Secretary to the Housing Council because of her pleasant manner, efficient way and her dedication to the Housing Council through the years.
